The Advancement Through Mastery approach challenges each student individually based on his or her strengths. At Village Academy, each student can be scheduled in classes based on their individual challenge level.
The School recognizes that some students have exceptional capabilities in certain areas and need individualized schedules to stay engaged and to succeed. Advancing students based on their aptitude by subject matter, rather than by age and grade, ultimately fosters an environment of continuous learning and allows students to pursue their true passions.
In this true form of advancement through mastery, a second grade student, for example, with advanced math skills equal to those demanded by our third grade level or higher, would attend third or fourth grade level math classes. This allows students to continue to progress at a challenging pace but remain with students of similar age appropriate levels of socialization. The Village Academy curriculum model is tailored to each student’s strengths, interests, and passions. Advancement through Mastery enables students to advance beyond a minimum standard of achievement, and instead, aspire to their greatest potential.
